The following large Storymaps are representative examples of David Sibbet’s information design work at The Grove, where he was a lead designer on these projects. What these images do not show, of course, is the engaging process leaders experience using these large Storymaps to tell the stories of their organization. Because the maps, like good street maps, embody the agreed-on information well juxtaposed, they leave plenty of room for many different narratives when using the maps. This allows a diverse range of people to tell the organizational story without requiring a specific script. Having a resonant narrative is one of the most important things that allows people to connect with the organizations and communities they live in.

Another thing that these maps don’t show is the series of interactive design sessions where the co-creators of these images get to tell many more stories. If a wide variety of points of view are encouraged in the process,  much healing and bridge building can occur. This process of reviewing, arguing, and finally agreeing is one of the most effective ways of achieving alignment and renewed inspiration in a complex organization.
